Davis county Hurricane Dec 1, 2011

So we had a category 2 hurricane early last Thursday Morning.
These were taken about 9 AM Thursday.
This is Mike Brown's (Dixon) driveway.  Her husband died last spring and she has just been made the RS Pres.  Her "boys" were there within the hour of the wind dying down and the driveway was clear.  They cut the tree at the edge of the driveway and dragged the top further onto the lawn with a dune buggy thing.
This is the next house east of Brown's.  Notice how the tree just tipped over bringing the roots with it.  Don't put trees in Lawns because they don't get deep roots.
Olive and Tim Layton house, you can only see the tree in front but there are two others down behind this one.  The one you are looking at brought it's roots up with it but the other two snapped about 2 feet up the trunk.
House next to Brown's again.  They lost 2 trees
Card's house, Notice this tree snapped at the dirt line and no roots came up.  It is not in grass.
These two are the Irwin's house and the one next to it so the Irwin's lost their own tree (top)

and then their neighbors two were sort of in their driveway (bottom)

This is the little rambler right behind the Bean's house.  Two big ones down in the front.
But two others fell on the side of the house.  These are 40 to 50 ft trees.
The church lost all of the trees in front of it.
No picture but they also had trees from the Ellison's and their neighbors come down on the fence on the east side and take out the chainlink fence.
This was only one of probably 15-20 that I saw between our house and Centerville.  Even a UPS truck had turned over on the Legacy and it was only one of 3 smaller trucks that had problems on the Legacy.  The under passes were stacked three  deep and two abreast of trucks waiting for the wind to stop.  Amazing!
The Play house took a hit and the manger for the nativity was destroyed (we took all the people in on Wednesday to the shed but figured the manger would be alright up against the fence. :-()
We had a near thing with the new Bar-b-que grill, I just happened to look out our bedroom window as it was headed north along by the stairway. It was still tethered to the gas line but not for long.  I screamed and thank goodness it was Dad's morning off because I could never have saved it by myself.  We got it in the garage.
The usually shingles went, although they have been there for 16 years so David did a good job in 1996
We lost some over the garage too and also over the kitchen area.  All that has clear plastic on it now thanks to Trevor and Landon Foust.
This is what we all did on Sunday.  Trucks and trailers and people all getting it cleaned up in the wake of another storm that was predicted but went south.

We had announcements, opening song, Sacrament song, Sacrament, closing prayer and then adjourned for instructions on who was to do what.
Church lasted 35 min. a record.

Todd Morgan (Morgan Asphalt & Paving) paid his crews to bring all his equipment up on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. and they worked right along side all the rest of the stake and neighborhood folks.  It was amazing how many people have trailers!

The land fill was open all day Sunday and the police were directing traffic because the lines were so long getting into it off of 193.  Dad said about a 10 car line up from both directions and then those trying to get out after dumping.

It was so cold on Thursday with no electricity that Dad and I went to the Marriott Courtyard to sleep that night.  He came home about 7 am and the  electricity had just come back on.  However, we found out on Sunday that the 3rd, 11th, 12, 18th and Crestwood wards didn't have any electricity yet.  I don't know if they got it on today but Morgan was closed because of no electricity so those folks have been 5 days with no heat or lights.  I wish we'd have know we have plenty of beds in the basement.

On Sunday I told dad we were going to run the furnaces all night to keep the house warm but when no wind appeared by mid night we turned them down.  I HATE being cold.  But we were VERY blessed!!! As you can see many others fared much worse and that is only about 1/3 of the damage on only one street, but it gives you a little picture of how bad it was.
