Hurricane Isaac and the Missionaries Part II

So it is the missionaries and other volunteers that are making those big piles out on the front lawns of people houses.  Some have insurance and their insurance company pays for a professional cleaner to come in i.e. Servpro in one of the pictures.

Others, such as this guy, have no flood insurance.  He was particularly sad because he had no home owners insurance either.  He is a retired contractor and the area has never flooded before.  He is a wood worker now and he made the desk behind him and many other beautiful pieces of furniture.  What is behind him he thinks he can rescue but if you look at the wall in the back ground you can see how high the water was.  There is an absolutely wonderful desk on the left that he made and is hoping to save.  And when we met him some guys who looked like this had just finished helping him for about 2/3's of a day.

He was so grateful that even as tough as he is he was on the verge of tears.  They had pulled up rooms full of wood flooring and cut the wall board out through out the house.  Helped him sort through what he could save and what he couldn't and were gentle and kind with him.

This is a district who was assigned together and their district leader, the guy with the fancy "resperator" instead of a "painters" type mask, is a gem.  He had them moving like a well oiled machine.  He kept track of time and had them drinking at intervals and eating snacks provided by the mission.  He saw to it that the gentleman signed the work order and approved their job before they went on to the next house.  Oh, that they were all like him.  His district loved being together and were very personable and kind to one another.
These pictures and the ones in the 1st post were taken on Friday the day we got there.  Some of the following were taken on Saturday and Sunday and I will try to caption them.

So Friday night we went back to the mission home in Baton Rouge about 1 hour from this little town and cleaned up.  This was the BIG Mistake,  this is where we swear no matter what, we will never leave home again with out missionary attire in the car, at least two changes.  We took only casual clothing, actually the clothes we drove over in and  a change to drive home in and our work clothes.  Bad choice, Pres & Sister Wall suggested we freshen up and they wanted to take us out to dinner.  We come down in our traveling clothes and they are in Missionary attire because the most northern Zone is coming to the mission home that night to be there to help on Saturday and Sunday.  They took us to a fun restaurant around the corner almost from the Home where Sister Wall recommended the Shrimp burger.  1/4 lb of angus beef with about 8 small shrimp and cheese melted on top of the beef and the sauce has jalapenos in it and several more slices were piled on top of the shrimp and cheese.  She ordered it, as did dad and I had a couple of tastes.  Pres. ordered the corn chowder and onion rings and I had a cup of gumbo, mmmm good. We had a great time and got home just in time for the 1st missionaries to arrive for Sister W's chocolate chip cookie sundaes  with the best chocolate sauce I think I have ever tasted.  Pres put the time to good use and started interviewing since transfers were coming up the next Wed.  They were due to receive 18 new missionaries on Tues Sep 11th.

We slept in the "General Authority Bedroom" for the time we were there and forgot to take pictures.  This is the 2nd GAB we have slept in (I hope the acronym is not disrespectful) the other is the Jackson Mississippi Home with Pres. and Sister McDonough on our way to Tallahassee

I am breaking this up because there is way too much.
